A successful migration is mostly preparation. Use this checklist to make sure you're ready before any workload moves.
Before you migrate
- Inventory every workload, dependency, and integration
- Model total cost of ownership (TCO) and target architecture
- Choose a strategy per workload (the 6 R's)
- Design a secure, multi-account AWS landing zone
- Plan migration waves with rollback for each
- Define success metrics and a cutover runbook
During and after
- Replicate data and validate before cutover
- Test performance, security, and cost post-migration
- Rightsize and apply Savings Plans
- Hand over FinOps and 24×7 monitoring
